T20 World Cup Semifinal Scenario: What West Indies' Huge Win Against Zimbabwe Means For India
The T20 World Cup is getting CRAZY! West Indies just SMASHED Zimbabwe by 107 runs in Mumbai and now India’s chances of reaching semi-finals is hanging by a THREAD! My heart is beating so fast! Let me explain everything that happened and what India MUST do now!
What Happened in Mumbai?
So on Monday, West Indies played Zimbabwe at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. And OH MY GOD! West Indies batted first and went CRAZY! They scored 254 runs in 20 overs! That’s the SECOND HIGHEST total in T20 World Cup history! Only Sri Lanka scored more in 2007!
Shimron Hetmyer was the HERO! He smashed 85 runs from just 34 balls with 7 sixes and 7 fours! He was dropped TWICE by Zimbabwe fielders on 9 runs and 70 runs and made them PAY!
Rovman Powell also scored 59 runs from 35 balls! And Sherfane Rutherford hit 31 not out from 13 balls at the end! Zimbabwe bowlers had NO idea what to do! Blessing Muzarabani took 2 wickets but went for 42 runs in 4 overs!
Then Zimbabwe tried to chase 255 runs (impossible right?) and they FAILED! They lost wickets like dominoes!
Gudakesh Motie was UNPLAYABLE! He took 4 wickets for only 28 runs! Akeal Hosein took 3 wickets! Zimbabwe got all out for only 147 runs in 17.4 overs. Brad Evans scored 43 runs from 21 balls with 5 sixes but it was TOO LATE!
West Indies won by 107 runs! EASY win!

Then NRR decides between IND and SA! Since India’s NRR is BAD (-3.80), they must win by HUGE margins to beat SA’s NRR!
Option C: South Africa loses to West Indies but beats Zimbabwe
WI has 4 points (beat SA and lost to IND)
SA has 4 points (lost to WI, beat ZIM)
INDIA has 4 points

Good News: Chennai Pitch Might Help!
Guess what? The Chennai pitch (Chepauk) where India plays Zimbabwe on Feb 26 might be BATTING FRIENDLY! Reports say all three pitches available will be good for high scores!

Highest score: 200 runs
Afghanistan chased 183 against NZ with 13 balls left!

My Thoughts
You know what I think? India is in BIG trouble but NOT out yet! They have beaten Zimbabwe before, they have beaten West Indies before. But winning by BIG margins is HARD!
The West Indies are LOOKING DANGEROUS! Hetmyer, Powell, Motie, Hosein – all in form! South Africa is also strong!
India needs to:
Score 220+ runs vs Zimbabwe
Bowl Zimbabwe out for under 120
That gives a NRR boost of +5.00 maybe!
Then beat the West Indies by 30+ runs in Kolkata!
It’s POSSIBLE but TOUGH!
My friend said “India will win both matches easily!” I said “Winning is easy, winning by BIG margins is HARD!”
But I BELIEVE in Suryakumar, Bumrah, Ishan, Hardik! They can do it!
