Virat Kohli Hits Fifty as RCB Begin with IMPRESSIVE Win Over SRH.

IPL 2026 results Virat Kohli hits fifty as RCB begin with impressive win over SRH

Oh my god, guys, IPL 2026 has started, and RCB is ALREADY winning. Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru played Sunrisers Hyderabad in the first match on Saturday at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. And guess what? RCB WON by 6 wickets. Virat Kohli scored 69 not out and finished the match with a SIX. Let me tell you everything.

What Happened Before the Match?

Before the game, RCB did something VERY emotional. They honored 11 fans who died in a stampede after their IPL 2025 victory parade outside the stadium.

They kept 11 empty seats in the stadium and had a minute of silence. Players wore black armbands. It was very sad but also beautiful that they remembered them.

The crowd was HUGE. When Virat Kohli came out, the ROAR was so loud my ears would have hurt.

SRH Batting - Ishan Kishan's 80.

SRH captain Pat Cummins was injured, so Ishan Kishan led the team. RCB won the toss and put SRH to bat first.

SRH batting:

  • Abhishek Sharma – out for 7 (bowled by Jacob Duffy)
  • Travis Head – out for 11 (caught by Kohli off Duffy)
  • Ishan Kishan – 80 runs off 38 balls. 8 fours, 5 sixes.
  • Heinrich Klaasen – 31 runs
  • Nitish Kumar Reddy – 20 runs
  • Rest – small scores
  • SRH total: 201/9 in 20 overs

Jacob Duffy – STAR on Debut

New Zealand pacer Jacob Duffy was playing his FIRST IPL match. And what a debut.

His figures: 4 overs, 3 wickets, 22 runs.

He got:

  • Abhishek Sharma (bowled)
  • Travis Head (caught)
  • Nitish Kumar Reddy (bowled)

He bowled at 140 km/h and swung the ball both ways. RCB fans were going CRAZY.

Phil Salt’s INSANE Catch

In the 16th over, Abhinandan Singh bowled to Ishan Kishan. Kishan hit the ball HIGH towards deep midwicket. Phil Salt RAN from long-on, covered so much ground, and took a ONE-HANDED catch, diving forward.

The crowd stood up and clapped. Even Kishan smiled and said “wow”.

RCB Chase - Virat Kohli SHOW

RCB needed 202 runs to win. They lost Phil Salt early for 8 runs. But then… DEVDUtt PADIKKAL arrived.

  • Devdutt Padikkal – 61 runs off 26 balls. He hit 6 fours and 4 sixes. Strike rate 234. He was hitting EVERYTHING.
  • Padikkal and Kohli added 101 runs in just 8 overs. The match was OVER by then.
  • Virat Kohli – 69 not out off 38 balls. 5 fours, 5 sixes.

He played like he was in TRAINING. So calm, so stylish. He hit a straight six that hit the SIGHT SCREEN at Chinnaswamy. The screen actually moved.

The FINISH

RCB needed 19 runs from 24 balls. Easy, right? But Kohli wanted to FINISH in style. In the 16th over, Harshal Patel bowled. Kohli hit:

  • First ball – SIX. Over long-on
  • Second ball – FOUR. Through covers.
  • Third ball – FOUR. Again through covers.
  • Fourth ball – FOUR. Over midwicket. GAME OVER.

RCB chased 202 runs in just 15.4 overs. That’s 4.2 overs LEFT. DOMINATION.

Sanju Samson’s explosive batting in the T20 World Cup 2026 showcased how a single player’s fearless approach can shift momentum instantly, proving once again that in the shortest format, one dynamic innings can redefine the course of a tournament.

What Did Kohli Say After The Match?

After the match, Virat Kohli said:

“It’s always special to start the season with a win at home. The crowd was amazing. We are playing for those 11 fans who are no longer with us. This win is for them.”

He also praised Padikkal:

“Devdutt was outstanding. He took all the pressure off me. When he plays like that, my job becomes easy.”

What Ishan Kishan Said?

Ishan Kishan, who scored 80 for SRH, said:

“We were 20-30 runs short. On this pitch, 200 was not enough. RCB batted brilliantly. We need to improve.”

Why This Win is IMPORTANT for RCB

RCB is the defending champion. The first match of the season is ALWAYS under pressure. But they WON easily. This gives them:

CONFIDENCE

Good NET RUN RATE (+2.5 approx)

Momentum for next matches

RCB next match: April 5 vs Chennai Super Kings in Chennai. That’s the BIGGEST match of IPL. Virat vs Dhoni (if Dhoni is fit).

Records Broken

Devdutt Padikkal – Fastest fifty for RCB in IPL history (22 balls)

Jacob Duffy – Best bowling figures by RCB debutant (3/22)

RCB – Highest chase in IPL 2026 so far (202 runs in 15.4 overs)

My Thoughts

You know what I think? RCB looks SCARY good.

Batting: Kohli, Padikkal, Salt, Patidar

Bowling: Duffy, Siraj, Bhuvi, Krunal

Fielding: Salt catch was UNREAL.

They are DEFENDING champions, and they PLAY like champions.

SRH will be disappointed. They have good batting (Kishan, Klaasen, Head), but bowling let them down. But it’s just the first match. Long season ahead.
